What IELTS score do you need for USA?
The United States has no national IELTS threshold. Every figure you will see quoted for the US belongs to a university, not to the government — which means the only honest way to answer "what do I need for the US?" is to look at the institutions you are actually applying to.
What real universities publish
Two examples from major public research universities, taken from their own admissions pages. Both sit at 6.5 for international undergraduates.

How to read this
Note the shape of Purdue's requirement: an overall score alone is not enough, because a weak section can fail you even with a comfortable average. Where a university publishes per-section minimums, your lowest skill is the one that decides the outcome — which is exactly what a full mock exposes and a single practice section does not.
What we don't claim
We do not publish a US "range". Competitive programmes commonly ask for more than 6.5, but we have not verified a specific figure against an institution's own page, so we do not state one. Graduate programmes typically set higher bars than the undergraduate minimums above. Always check the exact programme you are applying to.
